Secondary Introduction: The Japanese immigration system is known for its precision and detailed procedures, which are managed by the Immigration Services Agency of Japan. For most long-term stays, the process is unique as it begins in Japan with an application for a Certificate of Eligibility (CoE). Our team provides specialised guidance on this two-stage process, ensuring both your sponsor in Japan and you are prepared for a successful outcome.

Temporary Visitor Visa
For individuals travelling to Japan for tourism, visiting friends or relatives, or attending short business conferences for a period of up to 90 days. We can assist with the specific documentation required for this application.
Spouse or Child of a Japanese National
This Status of Residence is for the foreign spouse or child of a Japanese citizen who wishes to live with their family in Japan. The process begins with a CoE application sponsored by the Japanese family member.
Student Visa
For international students who have been accepted into a Japanese language school, college, or university. Your educational institution in Japan must first secure a Certificate of Eligibility on your behalf before you can apply for the visa.
Work Visas
For foreign professionals with a contract from a Japanese company. There are many categories, such as "Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services." This process is initiated by the employer applying for a CoE in Japan.

The Visa Process

Understanding Japan's Unique Two-Stage Application:
What is a Certificate of Eligibility (CoE)?
The CoE is the most critical document for almost all long-term visas. It is
issued by the Immigration Services Agency in Japan and certifies that you meet the legal
requirements for your intended activity (e.g., work, study). Your sponsor in Japan
(employer, school) must obtain this before you can apply for the actual visa.
Who applies for the Certificate of Eligibility (CoE)?
Your sponsor in Japan is responsible for applying for the CoE on your behalf.
For example, your employer applies for a work CoE, and your university applies for a
student CoE. They handle the application with the immigration authorities inside Japan.
What is a Residence Card ("Zairyu Card")?
The Residence Card is the official identification card issued to all mid- to
long-term residents upon arrival at major airports in Japan. It contains your photo,
identity, and Status of Residence. You are legally required to carry it with you at all times
in Japan.

1
Sponsor Applies for CoE in Japan
The process begins in Japan. Your employer, school, or spouse submits an application for your Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) to the local Immigration Services Agency.
4
Submit Application to Embassy/Consulate
You will submit your visa application, passport, and the original CoE to the Japanese Embassy or Consulate General in your country of residence.
2
Title: Receive the Original CoE
Once approved, the physical, original CoE is mailed from your sponsor in Japan to you in your home country. This document is essential for the next step.
5
Receive Visa in Your Passport
The Embassy or Consulate will assess your application. Once approved, a visa sticker is placed in your passport, authorising you to travel to Japan for your specific purpose.
3
Prepare Your Visa Application
With the original CoE in hand, we help you accurately complete the Japanese visa application form and gather the other required items, like your passport and photos.
6
Arrive in Japan & Get Residence Card
Upon arrival at the airport in Japan, you present your passport with the visa and the CoE. The immigration officer will then issue your official Residence ("Zairyu") Card.
